![]() It's not like Lr and some others that can store only the photos externally, with little to no speed penalty. I would expect so since the database is now on an external. This article claims it's slower, possibly: (Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere I searched the forums but came up short.) Thanks. I welcome advice or input from mini M1 users with a similar setup. I'm a hobbyist photographer (I take ~ 6k shots a year on a Canon 6D, do simple editing in Photos app) but I don't want to invest in a system that's going to be slow from the start or within a year. How well will that work? Is it noticeably slower than running the photo library from the internal SSD? From what I've read, external drives, even SSDs like the Samsung T7, will not equal the internal SSD. To save money, I'm considering buying the base 256gb or 512gb model, and moving the Photos library (500gb) to an external SSD (or HD). It's past time to upgrade, and I'm looking at the Mac mini M1. ![]() ![]() I have 75k photos in my Photos.app library on a 2010 vintage Mac mini (8gb RAM/1tb ssd). ![]()
